The "Keep It Simple" Trading Plan Template (Stop Overcomplicating!)

The “Keep It Simple” Trading Plan Template (Stop Overcomplicating!)

We all know the saying: “Plan your trade and trade your plan.” But how many of us actually write it down?

Most traders fail not because they can’t read a chart, but because they get emotional in the heat of the moment. They chase pumps, move stop-losses, or revenge trade after a loss.

The solution isn’t a better indicator; it’s a stricter set of rules.

Whether you are trading Bitcoin, Forex pairs, or Options, the structure of a winning plan is the same. Below is a simple 1-Page Trading Plan Template.

Feel free to copy this, paste it into your notes, and fill in the blanks!

:clipboard: The Trading Plan Template

1. My Setup Criteria (The “Why”) I will only look at the chart if the following conditions are met:

  • Trend Direction: (e.g., Price is above the 200 EMA)

  • Key Level: (e.g., Price is testing a major Support/Resistance zone)

  • Timeframe: (e.g., I only execute on the 1H or 4H chart)

2. The Entry Trigger (The “When”) I will not click “Buy/Sell” until I see:

  • (e.g., A bullish engulfing candle close)

  • (e.g., A breakout and retest of the level)

  • (e.g., RSI divergence confirmation)

3. Risk Management (The “Safety Net”)

  • Risk Per Trade: I will never risk more than __% of my account on a single trade. (Recommended: 1-2%)

  • Stop Loss: My stop loss must be placed at a technical invalidation level, not a random dollar amount.

  • Daily Loss Limit: If I lose __% of my account in one day, I stop trading immediately.

4. Exit Strategy (The “Payday”)

  • Take Profit 1: I will secure partial profits at… (e.g., 1:1 Risk/Reward ratio).

  • Trailing Stop: Once price moves X amount in my favor, I will move my Stop Loss to Breakeven.

:speaking_head: Discussion: What is your #1 Rule?

If you had to pick just ONE rule from the list above that saved your account from blowing up, what would it be?

For me, it is the Daily Loss Limit. Once I hit 2 losses in a row, I walk away from the screen.

Let me know your “Golden Rule” in the comments below! :backhand_index_pointing_down:
